Located in the square-mile Opus area at Minnetonka's southeastern corner, Green Circle Park is a small island of green in a sea of development. Connected to the 6-mile Opus trailway loop, it serves thousands of people who live and work nearby. Green Circle's natural amenities include a pond and wetland, native prairie (designated as one of the city's seven Monarch Waystations providing monarch butterfly habitat), with pockets of oak savanna and woodland. This site also offers excellent examples of native chokecherry, black cherry, elderberry and Ohio buckeye.
Restoration and ongoing maintenance across these plant communities are intended to control buckthorn, garlic mustard, burdock, stickseed and other invasive or weedy plants. Tree diversity and protection are another focus area, addressing plant pests such as emerald ash borer, overbrowsing by deer, overgrowth of "pioneer" native trees, and challenges from climate change.
