A trail passes up the hill between trees on the east side of the parkKinsel Park is located on the north side of Glen Lake. It offers large, old oak trees and woodlands on the west side, and long-term volunteer efforts have supported tree, shrub and herbaceous planting efforts.

Challenges here include:

  • Woody and herbaceous invasive plants
  • Tree loss or damage due to pests, disease, windfall and storm damage
  • Areas of overpopulation by native pioneer trees
  • Deer herbivory that hampers native plant regeneration
  • Past land uses that have reduced soil condition.

Restoration will take advantage of opportunities to preserve oaks and step up removal of invasive species and overpopulated pioneer trees. This effort also includes, seeding to diversity the ground layer of vegetation in newly opened areas, enhance resilience to climate changes, and engage volunteers to assist in key restoration areas and increase public awareness.
