The Minnetonka Police Department accepted public comment per MN State Statute 626.19 on implementing an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drone program.

Drones have become an emerging and vital tool in law enforcement. These drones serve several purposes when it comes to helping to provide safety for community members and officers alike, especially when other resources are not available or might be less effective. The use, reporting and restrictions on law enforcement use of drones are governed by state statute. The Minnesota BCA compiles and publishes data regarding law enforcement's use of UAVs. According to a June 2024 report, 99 law enforcement agencies in Minnesota operate UAVs.
