The city is proposing to renovate the Minnetonka Community Center which is 40 years old. The project would update the dining area and public meeting rooms. It would also increase the accessibility and capacity of restrooms, upgrade the HVAC system and improve technology throughout the facility.

The building hosts several community events and supports daily senior center activities. The last major renovation was completed 36 years ago. If approved, the building would temporarily close in early 2027 during construction. Senior Service programs and events would continue on a limited basis.

    At its July 27th regular meeting, the Minnetonka City Council approved a resolution ordering the improvements and authorizing preparation of revised plans and specifications for the Minnetonka Community Center Project, Project No. 27210.

    City staff is currently planning to open bids in October and the council would consider awarding the contract in early to mid-November. Construction is expected to be completed by July 1, 2027, due to rental and programming commitments.

    The facility would close in January, with the exception of the council chambers, Minnehaha and Purgatory Creek rooms, which were renovated in 2019. During construction all public access would be directed from city hall. Senior Services programming would continue on a limited basis and, in some cases, shift to other city facilities and meeting rooms.
