RE: 24 September Public Hearing for Hakim Residence, 16820 Edgewood Avenue
Over a year ago now, Farhad Hakim, the property owner of 16820 Edgewood Avenue, clear-cut over two dozen massive high-quality trees, leaving a barren waste front and back, very much at odds with a neighborhood that highly values its trees and its landscaping.
The prospect of survival for any replacement trees appears dim, considering Hakim’s treatment of mature trees. Therefore, replacement planting, especially considering the scale of the clear-cut and the significant attention it would require, is not realistic for this owner.
Meanwhile, after over five years of Farhad Hakim’s ownership, the house itself continues to deteriorate: plywood sheets replace broken windows; the siding remains unpainted and pitted; and portions of the structure are quite literally falling over.
Because we live right next door to this property, passersby often ask us, “What happened here? Why did he cut down all the trees?”
