I live near the proposed redevelopment and it appears to be an appropriately designed project. The question I have for city planners is one that deals with the intersection of Tonkawood and Minnetonka boulevard. The skewed intersection is less than ideal. At some point in the future, this intersection will probably be rebuilt. To rebuild it with the preferred right angle configuration would require some acquisition or dedication of right of way. This obviously will be much easier to do in its undeveloped state. Have planners had any contact with engineering staff from the city or county to discuss this possibility?

This would be a good opportunity for Minnetonka to stand up for the construction of affordable homes, not the single family mega-mansions that Chamberlain Fine Custom Homes has proposed. The site is a prime location for rezoning to R-3 or R-4, with access to public transit at Minnetonka Blvd & Steele Street, to the shops at Minnetonka Blvd & 101 like Lakewinds Food Coop, and recreation centers The Marsh and Williston, and the City Center. All within 1 mile of the site and easily accessible by trail.

I urge the city to reject the proposal and re-zone the parcel so we can welcome more residents to Minnetonka with more diverse economic backgrounds.
