About the fund
Bloomberg Philanthropies has selected the City of Minnetonka to participate in the 2026-27 Youth Climate Action Fund cohort, which mobilizes young people ages 15 to 24 to develop and implement climate action solutions in their communities. Minnetonka has been awarded a $50,000 grant from Bloomberg, which will be redistributed as microgrants to youth-led projects in fall 2026.
Funding amount
Microgrants of $1000-$5000 will be redistributed to teams led by at least two young people aged 15-24 and their sponsor organization.

The city will begin accepting applications for the program in early September 2026. Additional program updates will be shared on this webpage as they become available. In the meantime:

In the meantime, submit an interest survey if you are interested in applying or need help assembling a project team of young people and a sponsor organization. You will be connected to city staff and will receive helpful program information before the application opens in Sept. Note, submitting an Interest Survey does not serve as applying for this program.
Who is eligible
Project teams must include at least two youth leads who propose, design and lead the project, and one sponsor organization who supports the project. The sponsor organization will receive the funds on behalf of the project. The project members must include:
At least two youth leads who:
are 15 to 24 years old
live or attend a school located in Minnetonka
One sponsor organization that:
Is a legally registered entity
Has a bank account in the organization's name
Is recognized as a non-profit, charitable organization or public entity under local law. Some examples include:
Youth groups and high school clubs
Organizations supporting youth
Schools and educational institutions
Environmental organizations
Community groups
Museums
Faith organization
Eligible projects
Projects must benefit the Minnetonka community. Climate action projects can relate to sustainable transportation, building energy efficiency and renewable energy, waste and recycling, and climate resiliency. View a list of eligible expenses. Note, the project implementation phase will occur mid-Nov. 2026 through early April 2027. Types of eligible projects include:
Climate education and awareness, like courses, experiences, workshops for all ages, documentaries, or other arts
Research and data collection, like mapping environmental health
Resilience and adaptation, such as helping people and places adapt to a changing climate
Green infrastructure, reforestation, and environmental protection, like creating or planning a green space, rain garden or native garden
Sustainable waste management, like promoting or hosting a water reduction, reuse, recycling and organics collections
Sustainable transportation, like encouraging walking, biking, and carpooling
Building energy efficiency and renewable energy-related projects, such as education or implementation
Local food gardening, like starting a shared food garden or hydroponic system
