Residential Front Yard Setbacks

A setback is the minimum distance a building (including attached outdoor spaces like decks) must be from property lines and natural features (like wetland or floodplain areas). 

A front-yard setback is the minimum distance a building must be from a front property line. (Note, this distance is measured from the surveyed property line, not from the street.)

Major roads are typically roads designed for higher levels of traffic, like County Road 101, Minnetonka Boulevard, Plymouth Road, Tonkawood Road and Excelsior Boulevard.

Minor roads are generally roads within neighborhoods, like Idylwood Road, Beacon Circle, Oak Knoll Terrace, Jane Lane and Temple Drive.
