The Excelsior Group has submitted concept plans to redevelop 2000 Hopkins Crossroad. Each of the four concepts involves building new 10-bedroom, licensed residential care homes for individuals living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Two concepts call for removing the existing school building, while the other two consider preserving its oldest section.
This project is currently undergoing concept plan review. The planning commission and city council will view the proposal and offer feedback to the applicant, who may then use these insights to prepare a formal plan and application. No formal votes to approve or deny the concept will be taken at this stage.

My family has lived in the immediate area of this project since the mid 50's and enthusiastically supports the English Rose proposed plans for the property including the demolition of the existing building.
My siblings and I all attended the Oak Knoll School for most of K through 6 grades and have great memories from that time. But we support the demolition of this building to make way for this much needed dementia care housing.
We have coexisted with the subsequent uses of this property and building, which have not been ideal for the neighborhood, and think the English Rose proposal for dementia care housing for this property is ideal in every way and will be great for the neighborhood!
I was able to place my husband in a dementia care home in a neighborhood similar to this, and it was a really good fit for the residents and neighborhood.

I live in Sherwood Forest around the corner from 2000 Hopkins Crossroads. I attended a neighbourhood meeting where the proposals for that space were presented. I also favour the English Rose proposal with 2 10 bed residences for Memory Care clients. It's pretty clear that if the building is retained more parking spaces will be required and this will reduce the green spaces in the the two homes plan. The plan looks like it will be a lovely addition to the neighbourhood.
Also, as far as I know there is no group that has been identified that would be able to use the existing building and it looks like it would require considerable renovation . Thank you for your consideration. Charlie Greenman
I support the two-home concept proposed by English Rose. The existing building on the property holds painful memories for many residents in the area, and I don’t believe it can be meaningfully repurposed for community use. That said, it is a historic structure, and Minnetonka has few remaining links to its past. I hope that some part of the building—whether architectural or symbolic—can be preserved, even if not on this site, then elsewhere in the city.
I am opposed to maintaining the existing building at 2000 Hopkins Crossroad. Having shared a common border for the past 45 years I have not a single fond memory of anything associated with that building. It started with the legal battles over the conditional use permit in 1983 and 84.

Ever since that time we have been plagued with hundreds if not thousands of sirens heading to 2000 Hopkins Crossroad from the police, fire rescue and ambulances. I'm enclosing a link to a photo that I took on July 31st 2021 showing a minimum of six emergency vehicles in the parking lot of the building.

I can think of nothing that could be done to that building that could erase the disdain I have for that property. The two building concept of English Rose appears to be a good use of the property, I support the concept.
fPlease tear that old building down! When Volunteers of America were there it was awful! I’ve been in it and it is a very depressing building. I vote for 2 nice homes and welcome English Rose.
My vote is for two buildings - and please DO remove the old school building. It is far too old and no amount of repairs could make it usuable.
