Project summary

The City of Minnetonka will replace an old four-inch diameter force main located along Whitegate Lane and connecting to a sanitary manhole on County Road 15 (Gleason Lake Road). The force main was constructed in 1973 and has reached the end of it service life. Teams will install a new six-inch force main.

The new main will be horizontally and directionally drilled (HDD) parallel to the existing force main. HDD installation methods significantly reduce impacts to traffic, pavement, green space and surrounding infrastructure. The process utilizes a rig to pull new sections of force main into place with minimal disruption to surface improvements. It only requires pits to be excavated at significant bends or high points. Additionally, the existing force main will remain in service during construction.

Traffic Impacts

Access to homes will be maintained during the project with the exception of short periods of construction activities. A two-week closure of County Road 15 (Gleason Lake Road) is expected using Hwy 12 and Interstate 494 as a detour.

Project schedule

Construction is expected to begin on Aug. 24, and is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Will I be assessed for this project?

No. This project will be paid for through the city's utility fund.
